FAQs
OxyStrap provides accuracy of body temperature, heart rate and blood oxygen levels equivalent to medical devices. Elevated heart rate, rising body temperature and dropping blood oxygen levels could all be early indicators of an illness. Any significantly abnormal body vital signs detected by OxyStrap® might be an early warning sign to seek medical care. The OxyStrap Fitness tracker is a great tool for improving your health and fitness level which is the best defense against illnesses including obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.

OxyStrap is unique & the most effective fitness tracker because it is the only fitness tracker that provides two essential features:
- Accuracy of Body Vital Signs (oxygen saturation, heart rate & body temperature) while you’re “on the move”
- Real-time audio announcements of fitness data at user selected frequency.
No other fitness tracker on the market has that capability.
We call it OxyStrap because it's a headband and it provides accurate oxygen saturation data.
Accurately tracking blood oxygen saturation, heart rate and body temperature is important, not only for safety, but also for achieving optimal exercise results and athletic performance. The oxygen saturation values as well as heart rate from the extremity-based trackers are not accurate. The head is the only location on the body where you can accurately track oxygen saturation and heart rate while you’re moving.
OxyStrap is the only fitness tracker that addresses the issue of safety. It enhances safety by providing accurate and real-time audio announcement alerts to abnormalities of oxygen saturation, heart rate and body temperature. That can be an early warning to stop your activity and seek medical attention. It helps to avoid conditions such as heart malfunction, heat stroke, altitude sickness and other low oxygen situations.
We do not promote the OxyStrap as a sleep monitor. Despite the fact that many fitness trackers claim that they can monitor & track your sleep effectively, the truth is, they cannot because they do not provide accurate oxygen saturation readings. For sleep tracking, fitness trackers are just gimmicks with false claims of reliability.
Unlike most fitness trackers on the market, the OxyStrap is not designed for 24/7 use. It is specifically designed to be worn for shorter periods during an activity such as exercise workouts, training, sports and even some leisure & work activities. Battery life is 6-hours if fully charged. The 6-hour battery life of continuous use is ample for those activities. The Oxystrap can be used intermittently during an activity to conserve battery if needed. When you use the OxyStrap in remote areas, it is recommended that you carry back-up batteries for charging. The OxyStrap Fitness Tracker is always on. But it goes into a sleep mode when not paired or being used to conserve power.
OxyStrap is not an FDA approved medical device. However, our rigorous testing has shown that it gives vital signs data results comparable to the accuracy of medical devices if used correctly. It reports accurate data under a wide variety of conditions such as dehydration, low blood pressure, motion, moisture, sunlight, and low environmental temperatures.
Dr. Ron Gertsch, the lead developer of the OxyStrap remarked: “As an athlete and also a surgeon specializing in bariatrics and fitness, I became frustrated with all the fitness trackers on the market. They were simply gimmicks because none of them provided accurate body vital signs with real-time audio announcements which I knew were essential features for an effective fitness tracker. So, that was the beginning. Now we have finished the development of the OxyStrap® which is truly the ultimate fitness tracker. It enables the achievement of the best possible activity results and performance with enhanced safety.”
Pilots who fly small aircraft without pressurized cabins could be at risk for altitude sickness if they do not monitor their body oxygen level. Altitudes above 8,000 feet will cause a reduction in o2 saturation (level of blood oxygen) and could result in danger from altitude sickness.
No, the Bluetooth wireless transceiver in the OxyStrap is FCC approved for safety.
Currently, OxyStrap must be used with an IOS mobile device (excluding smart watches) that is Bluetooth compatible (4.0 or later). That combination will give you the ultimate fitness tracker. Smart watches and smart phones by themselves are not effective fitness trackers because they don't provide accurate and real-time body vital signs announcements. (An android app will be available soon.)
